(Act 178 - click on ROAD LAW to get to the State Site) This law requires towns to inventory all of their town roads. That process is done through historical records research. This web site provides resources and links for those doing research into old roads in Vermont. IMPORTANT NOTE: The February 2009 deadline has been extended to February 2010. A 1795 Road Map Detail from the Carey map of Vermont shows the "Road over the Mountain" from Rutland - probably today’s Route 4 & Route 100. Early maps like this one show only major roads.
